My Vintage Bag
Following on from yesterday’s post on Fashion’s Dirty Secret, I decided to wear all vintage to my work meeting today, and here is a photograph of my new vintage bag as promised.
The bag dates from the 1950s and is made from crocodile skin (or a very high quality stamped leather imitation of it). I find the suggested shape of the crocodile quite sexy (which as a vegetarian is somewhat disturbing!), but it was the front brass handle clasps that I really fell in love with.
I bought the bag online from My Vintage, a real treasure trove for all things vintage, run by the ever knowledgable and friendly Emma Brown. Do check out the My Vintage website, which contains not just items for sale but also very interesting articles on the history of clothing.
Why buy a cheap leather bag from the high street which will only last a couple of seasons if you are lucky, when for just a little bit more you can have a quality bag that has been in service (without showing many signs of wear) for over fifty years, and will undoubtedly be around for another fifty, at least?

My real name is Mary, but have been called Moll since childhood, and Molly since starting this blog - I answer to all three! The Princess is my lovely bike - a Pashley Princess Sovereign.
This blog is about what we get up to in the South West of England and beyond - I pedal the Princess, craft, cook, thrift, sew (and sow). Fuelled by tea.
