Handmade Thursday: Yo-Yos
My German evening classes are finished for the summer, The Apprentice is over (hurrah for Tom!) and so I was looking for something to fill my Wednesday evenings with, when news of a local craft group meet popped up on Twitter. Before you could say ‘Make Do and Mend’ I had all the details, and my place for the evening booked.
Armed with material, scissors and thread, and a mug for tea, I joined a lot of very lovely people for an evening of fabric swapping, crafting, tea and chat. Most people were working on their own projects, but as I hadn’t brought anything, I joined in with some yo-yo making and patchwork demonstrations.
My yo-yos aren’t perfect by any means, despite being told you can’t go wrong with them. I only made a few, before moving on to patchwork, but as soon as I got home I was thinking ‘what can I do with these’. It wasn’t long before I was raiding the button jar and sewing them on to the cardigan I was wearing at the time …
… and then teamed with a French Connection top (see what I did there?)
I continued making patchwork hexagons on the train this morning, and was delighted to have something new to do (I’m sure you all are too, and that I’m not only #asleeponthetrain :))
I am really looking forward to the next meeting, and hoping that some of the incredible creative talent that is there will rub off on me, I was certainly inspired!

My real name is Mary, but have been called Moll since childhood, and Molly since starting this blog - I answer to all three! The Princess is my lovely bike - a Pashley Princess Sovereign.
This blog is about what we get up to in the South West of England and beyond - I pedal the Princess, craft, cook, thrift, sew (and sow). Fuelled by tea.
