A departure from my usual annual Wiener Werkstätte Valentine image this year – and instead, a Valentine verse from around 1888, attributed to a ‘Jessie Shepherd’:

Seems like Jessie was a bit more imaginative than yours truly, who stuck with the traditional ‘Be my Valentine? … Guess Who?’ this year (I know, I know – not good enough, but I’ve been busy!)
If you are struggling to decode Jessie’s verse, please scroll down for the solution, and Happy Valentines day dear reader, whether you are all loved up (like me) or not!
‘I am in love as thou mayst see, I love but one and that is thee. Read down and up and thou shall’t find the way to read thy valentine’

My real name is Mary, but have been called Moll since childhood, and Molly since starting this blog - I answer to all three! The Princess is my lovely bike - a Pashley Princess Sovereign.
This blog is about what we get up to in the South West of England and beyond - I pedal the Princess, craft, cook, thrift, sew (and sow). Fuelled by tea.
I really wish my sketching was that good, it is stunning. Thanks for sharing :)
