A departure from my usual annual Wiener Werkstätte Valentine image this year – and instead, a Valentine verse from around 1888, attributed to a ‘Jessie Shepherd’:

old fancy valentine

Seems like Jessie was a bit more imaginative than yours truly, who stuck with the traditional ‘Be my Valentine? … Guess Who?’ this year (I know, I know – not good enough, but I’ve been busy!)

If you are struggling to decode Jessie’s verse, please scroll down for the solution to this valentine puzzle, and Happy Valentines day dear reader, whether you are all loved up (like me) or not!

‘I am in love as thou mayst see, I love but one and that is thee. Read down and up and thou shall’t find the way to read thy valentine’
